YO YO !! hope you is all alright! were havin a smashin' time here in Florida and here for you we have our 4th blog entry.

TUESDAY 28th OCTOBER
We met the high school kids of America today. We visited Cocoa Beach high and visited 3 of the Theory Of Knowledge classes. We learnt about American Society and they learnt about our society. then we SHOPPED again we visited a mall and had a great time.. we saw this candy shop that was full from floor to ceiling with SWEETS!! After this busy day we visited the planetarium and god it was brilliant!! Holly can now locate Orion's  belt in the night sky and Nicole well she can see the stars!! (Hey!!!) yeah that was Nicole and Holly's back now XD

WEDNESDAY 29th OCTOBER
Today was the day youve all been waiting for. WE BECAME ASTRONAUTS!! we did various space tasks at the astronaut training experience including a one 6th gravity trainer and a multi - axis trainer to give us experience of what its like in space. The we launched rockets which we made earlier in the day. The last activity we did was a sample mission. Holly landed the orbiter in this and did the job of the pilot (which is the most important and not the commander) and Nicole did the job of EECOM and was responsible for emergencies .. we all nearly died in a fire because she couldnt locate the right page. (Actually she couldn't find right button!!)

blog entry for sunday and monday

Hi this is our 3rd blog entry

Sunday 26th October
Today was spent traveling between Houston and Orlando, Florida. SUCH a long journey but we did have one HUGE surprise when we came here though ... a hummer !!! we rented one for our "luggage" and we occasionally take rides in it !! XD SOOOOO cool. had about an hours drive to the Wakulla hotel and we were put into rooms again. Me and Nicole are sharing a room and we have a new room mate, lovely SOPHIE. having such a laugh and are going totally mad !! thats it for today as we spent most of the day traveling so nothing happened.

Monday 27th October
today was our first day in florida. Nicole was the first person (along with Alex) to have a ride in the hummer. her journey consisted of travelling to the local supermarket and then onto Kennedy space center. After this she got booted out for Sophie and Katherine. At KSC we went on a tour of different parts of the center. We saw the vehicle asembly building which was GI-NORMAS, a huge 1 storey building that is equivalent to a normal 50 storey building. There is a huge flag on the left that is the size of a basketball court. Inside this building they assemble the shuttles and rockets, and prepare them for take off. The shuttle/rocket will remain here until 30 days before take off and then is transported to the launch pad on a 6-8 hour long journey. We also saw both launch pads A & B.

the tour ended with another Saturn V rocket, (which brings our total of Saturn V's to 2/3) where we watched a film on the lunar landing of the Apollo 11 mission (this was the first successful mission to the moon). While on the tour we also saw a lot of the local wildlife including aligators, manatees, turtles, armadillos and TONNES of different birds. After this we went to a museum called "walk of fame" which is a museum set up by volunteers to remember all the previous missions into sub-orbit, orbit and onto the moon. here they took us around the town where there were a number of memorials each with a different design to represent each mission. then we looked around the museum and James, the team leader, tried on a space man outfit which amused us quite a lot. Then we returned to our hotel and chillaxed for the rest of the night.

Catch up with you soon Coley and Holly xxx

WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY PHOTOS

Saturday 25th October

Today we made rockets !!! out of bottles and paper and stuff. Our aim as mission controllers was to safely launch the rocket and make all parts safely retuned to Earth together in one piece by means of a parachute. Unfortunately the teachers won .. but we're sure they cheated !! After the rockets we visited a typical Texan Cowboy shop and while there we watched the Thunderbirds take part in the air show that was going on throughout the day.

Today was also GEOFFS 29th birthday and after numerous sing-a-longs of happy birthday we visited a Hummer garage. we ended the night with a lovely Chinese Buffet. this was our last night with Mr. Ojha and he spent it talking to us kids XD. After returning to the Hilton we had to pack .... which took us a good few hours. We are now officially ready for Florida.

BRING IT ON !

Blog entry number 2 (holly and nicole)

Hello everyone !!!

Have not written for a while but we do have two video diaries coming. Right since our last entry we have done ALOT of activities.

FRIDAY 24th OCTOBER
After leaving the Hilton Hotel at 8am, stopping for breakfast on route we arrived at the Johnson Space Centre at 9.15am. We were given a VIP tour of the ENTIRE Johnson Space Center by our guides called David. & Jerry. They took us to all kinds of Nasa only buildings such as the NBL (neutral buoyancy lab). This is a HUGE training facility for astronauts, its a remarkable 202 ft in length, 102 ft in width and 40 ft deep pool!.

This "pool" contains a exact replica of the international space station where the astronauts spend 7 hours doing jobs that they will spend an hour on in space. Next we visited the holder for the LARGEST rocket ever sent into space, the Saturn V. There are only 3 remaining, one each in Houston, Florida and Alabama. This Saturn V rocket is HUGE-MONGUS seriously our jaws dropped at just how big it was.

Here we (me and nicole) had a photo taken where we were "holding" up the moon. This building was also a key place on the trip because Holly broke her camera. She was DEVASTATED.

The Worlds biggest "bell jar" (vacuum chamber) was next on the schedule this is where they test space suits and equipment to be used in space. Despite all these incredible sites THE most incredible was historic mission control. We got to sit in the flight controllers chair AND look at the red phone that they used to call the President on. Then once the Tour had finished we went to ... THE MALL !!! it was a typical American Mall and we did a bit of shopping.

First Day

Hey everyone!!!
Holly & Nicole here from Houston, Texas. Today's date is the 23rd October and its our first proper day.
We started the day at IHOP (international house of pancakes) where we had breakfast, and my was it huge!! While there we had a chat to 2 of the Thunderbirds, they are the American equivalent to the English Red Arrows (they definitely spent ages shining their shoes, you could see your face in them XD).
Next we moved on to the Johnson space center where Mr. Ojha gave us a masterclass in physics for the remainder of the day until 4. We learnt about the history of Mars and how one day NASA hope to get man onto Mars and the problems they face getting them there. We studied various rocket science equations , made rockets and did lots of experiments. While there we met Eugene Krantz who was a mission controller for the Apollo missions and most famously Apollo 13, 'failure is not an option'.
Finally we are currently enjoying "free time" and are about to go out for din dins.
catch you later

T - Minus 6 and counting

Mission Possible

Keep track of Holly & Nicole on their 11 day Space Adventure.

Birmingham North CLC working with the British National Space Centre and NASA have created a series of science masterclasses, its aim is to ignite their interest in space exploration. They will undergo Astronaut training including microgravity, the multiple–axis space training facility and command a Space Shuttle. Along the way they will learn to convert Physics theory into practice!

Do they have the 'right stuff' to be Britain’s first Astronauts? NASA is looking for candidate astronauts for 2020 when mankind will returns to the moon, will Birmingham lead the way?

Space Centre Houston, the Brits are coming!
